Szoboszlai has a €70 million release clause in his contract, which Liverpool are expected to have to pay.

And, in a separate deal, talented winger Fabio Carvalho is going to join Leipzig on a season-long loan deal.

Dominik Szoboszlai's journey

At 22 years of age, Dominik Szoboszlai is one of the most exciting young players in the world at the moment, and has been for a while.

The Hungarian impressed for RB Salzburg to the point where he became a wanted man by a host of elite clubs in 2021.

Though, he decided to sign for Salzburg's associated club Leipzig, who paid a €20 million transfer fee for his signature.

Two years later, having now proven himself in Germany, he looks set to move on once more.

And with 14 goal contributions in both of his two Bundesliga seasons, he has certainly earned a move to a top club.

Newcastle's project would have been an intriguing option, but it looks as though he will join Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

Szoboszlai will play alongside Fabinho and Alexis Mac Allister in the centre of the pitch at Anfield.
