Former Bayern technical director Michael Reschke would be 'surprised' if Harry Kane signed for the Bundesliga champions.

Bayern shocked the world of football on Tuesday when they submitted a €70m bid for Tottenham legend Kane. The England forward is once again the subject of heated speculation with his Spurs future up in the air and a contract that expires next year.

Will the north London club finally cash in on their talismanic striker, will he sign an extension or will he leave as a free agent next year? These are the questions keeping Tottenham fans awake at night. Manchester United and Real Madrid were both in the race to sign the 29-year-old but have since reportedly dropped out, with the former unwilling to match Spurs' asking price.

There have been weak links to Chelsea as well since Kane is building a family home a few miles down the road from the Blues' Cobham training ground, but it seems unlikely that he would join them, certainly not this summer. This has left Bayern as the only potential option and the Germans have duly made a move.

Despite seeing their first bid rejected, they will reportedly submit an improved offer and the England star is said to be open to the move, but not everybody is convinced that it will come about.

What did Reschke say?

Writing in Kicker, former Bayern technical director Michael Reschke has made some interesting claims about this potential transfer. "The Munich club can't compete in bidding wars for the top ten players - players of the calibre of Mbappe and Haaland - in the world."

"But," he continued, "the appeal of Bayern is still alluring to top international players, and the club could pull off €80m-€100m transfers if there is a total conviction." Yet it's tough, even for Bayern, to sign the best English players because of their "strong connection to the Premier League," writes Reschke.

The 65-year-old would, therefore, "be surprised if Kane left England." He did, however, also acknowledge that signing Kane would make Bayern's Champions League intentions clear and the prospect of challenging for a European trophy again could prove very attractive to the soon-to-be 30-year-old.
