Nevertheless, the expectation is that he will finally leave the Amex this summer. Both the Gunners and Chelsea have again been vying for his services, but the former are more concerned with completing the signing of priority target Declan Rice, which has given the Blues a free run at Caicedo.

Despite this, a move still hasn't materialised, and recent reports have suggested that Manchester United could enter the race to put pressure on Chelsea so that they will more readily sell Mason Mount. With the move stalling, Chelsea fans have started to fear that the deal might collapse.

According to Fabrizio Romano, those fears are unfounded, however. The Italian transfer expert claims that Chelsea are still fully confident of completing the move.

Personal terms are 'almost' agreed, says Romano, and they will finally launch an official bid soon. Chelsea "still feel in control of the situation," according to the Italian.

Todd Boehly and company have thus far been busy finalising outgoings in order to trim down their bloated squad, with several of their players heading to Saudi Arabia, while Kai Havertz is in negotiations with Arsenal, Mason Mount wants to move to Manchester United and Mateo Kovacic appears to be on his way to Manchester City.

Moreover, Chelsea's recruitment department has been hard at work completing the signing of Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson, who could be officially announced next week. Christopher Nkunku has already arrived at Stamford Bridge after a deal for the Leipzig attacker was completed last year.
