EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool want Tielemans transfer in addition to Mac Allister
The Merseyside club have had a long-term interest in the 25-year-old Belgium international, who can play in a number of different positions that manager Jurgen Klopp wants to upgrade in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements in the middle of the park.
Jordan Henderson will not be guaranteed first-team football next season, James Milner is on the verge of joining Brighton while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are set to depart the club along with Fabinho. Additionally, Thiago Alcantara has continuously spent more time on the medical table than on the football pitch since joining the club.
Klopp, therefore, feels that the versatile Belgian can cover a number of midfield positions and will do so at a relatively low cost.
This should allow the German to pursue other high-profile targets, with Alexis Mac Allister looking the likeliest addition to the Reds’ midfield from Brighton. Chelsea’s Mason Mount is another player of interest, while there are other options open to the Reds if these deals fall through.
’Tielemans a brilliant free transfer’
Tielemans who was close to joining Arsenal last summer and will be in high demand when the window opens June 10, with many Premier League clubs harbouring an interest in the player. Among those watching Tielemans are Newcastle and Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
He has scored 21 goals and registered 19 assists in 147 appearances for Leicester in in the Premier League since making the move from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco in 2019.
Former England captain Bryan Robson has claimed the Leicester midfielder would be the perfect signing for Liverpool.
“An absolutely brilliant free transfer. He has Premier League and international experience, you rarely see him have a bad game,” the Manchester United icon said.
Tielemans commands an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €49 million, despite being out of contract in June, making him the most valuable free agent this summer.
