It's been the same story in other frontiers as well - Lampard could not keep Chelsea in the Champions League, losing 2-0 in both home and away contests in the quarter-finals to Real Madrid.

And in the Premier League, it's not gone to plan either - with losses coming in the Blues’ last four matches while the management of their interim boss.

There is not much to play for now - Europe is out of sight for Chelsea and there is high chance of them getting relegated, baring something absolutely catastrophic.

But, for all that, it seems that it's unlikely Chelsea will sack Lampard.

And indeed, what's the point at this stage in the season, with nothing to play. The club are looking to bring in a long-term successor ahead of the new campaign and sacking Lampard would ultimately mean that they would need to hire yet another caretaker manager to fill in for their final five games.

Lastly, sacking Lampard would also be another embarrassment for Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly, who has made mistake after mistake, well and truly learning the hard way about how to run a football club in the Premier League.

Of course, Chelsea are capricious by nature and anything is possible, especially with Boehly at the helm.

But sacking the still popular Lampard at this stage, even if results have gone terribly, would be a faux pas of the highest order - and Chelsea could really do without another one of those.
