However, in the end, Haaland decided to join Borussia Dortmund in January 2020 – rejecting both Man Utd and Juventus.

What did Romano say about Haaland?

“One of the most in-form players in Europe this season, City’s summer signing Erling Haaland was close to joining Manchester United when he was at Red Bull Salzburg,” Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried to persuade him but he wanted to proceed with Borussia Dortmund as the perfect step in his career despite also having proposals from United and Juventus.”

Haaland scored 86 goals in 89 games for Dortmund before signing for Man City this past summer for €60 million.

The Norwegian superstar has enjoyed a blistering start to the season for his new club, already hitting the back of the net 14 times in just 10 games in all competitions.

Haaland has been breaking all kinds of records at Man City so far this season. He has had the best start in front of goal in Premier League history, while he is the fastest player in the league to hit back-to-back hat-tricks, which he achieved against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

Haaland will ironically next be in action in the Manchester derby on October 2, hoping to further add to his tally.

Man Utd themselves have been in much improved form recently, embarking on a four-match winning streak in the Premier League after losing their first two matches of the campaign to Brighton and Brentford.
