Manchester United have had a club record €130 million offer rejected for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix.

United had reportedly identified the 22-year-old as a target after failing with a €50m bid for Felix's teammate Matheus Cunha but Atletico are not willing to sell either player.

The Spanish side signed Felix from Benfica for €126m in 2019 and has become one of the club's most important players, scoring 21 goals in 83 La Liga games.

Felix is believed to be happy to stay at Atletico due to the love he feels from the club and the fans, and the Portugal international is supposedly one of the most vocal leaders in the dressing room.

United sources have denied the existence of a bid, however it is believed they have approached Atletico but baulked at the idea of paying his €350m release clause.

United's search for a forward goes on

Felix is one of more than 20 players that have been linked to United in the past few days, with manager Erik ten Hag hoping to bring in up to five players before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

United are looking to bring in a backup goalkeeper, a right-back, a defensive midfielder, a winger and a striker, while question marks also remain over the futures of the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and wantaway forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

With United having struggled to bolster their squad after signing three players this summer, the likelihood of five new arrivals is slim but there is a renewed need to strengthen after the club's dismal start to the season.

United are bottom of the Premier League for the first time in 30 years, having lost their opening two games of the season, and they have missed out on a host of their top targets this summer.

The club are believed to be interested in making a renewed approach for Ajax winger Antony as well as attempting a move for Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro.
