Nottingham Forest have announced that they have signed Atletico Madrid left wing-back Renan Lodi on a one-year loan deal.

Forest will pay €5 million to Atleti for the next season, while they have an option to buy in the contract that is worth a further €30m.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed last week that Forest's interest in Lodi was still live and that Cristiano Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, was a driving force behind the transfer.

A statement on the club's official website said: "Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the signing of Atlético Madrid full-back Renan Lodi on a season-long loan."

Lodi's impressive pedigree

Lodi represents quite a coup for Forest. FootballTransfers values the left wing-back at €35m, having previously hit a peak of over €50m in January 2021.

The 24-year-old has already been capped 15 times by Brazil, but has not been in Diego Simeone's thinking this season. Indeed, he has been left on the bench for their two Primera Division matches to date this season and has not played a single minute of football.

Last term, where he was used in various roles down the left, he was often used as a replacement but still ended the campaign with four goals and six assists, including one of each in the Champions League last-16 victory over Manchester United.

Earlier this summer, he was linked with a possible transfer to Manchester City, but it is Forest who have won the race to sign him.

Lodi has become Nottingham Forest's 18th new signing of the summer and follows Dean Henderson as the second player to arrive at the club on loan.
