Wesley Fofana has agreed personal terms with Chelsea ahead of a potential move from Leicester City, according to reports.

Chelsea have been looking to add defenders to their first-team squad, having lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen in the window.

Centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly has arrived from Napoli in a £33 million deal, while the Blues beat Manchester City to the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £62m.

Manager Thomas Tuchel stills wants at least one more defensive reinforcement, though, with Leicester's Fofana his top target.

The Frenchman has been excellent for the Foxes, since his move from Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne in 2020.

And, at 21 years of age, he is seen as a long-term solution for Chelsea, the primary reason they are willing to spend so much to bring him in.

Indeed, Leicester have rejected bids of £60m and £70m from the west London club, with their asking price thought to be over £80m. Chelsea are expected to meet these demands in the coming days.

As for Fofana, he is desperate for the move to Chelsea, where he can showcase his talents in the Champions League.

And, according to the Mail, he has agreed a £200,000-a-week contract with his potential new club.

Fofana's behaviour after Leicester's defeat to Arsenal hinted that he will soon be on his way out, too.

The 21-year-old went over to the Foxes fans, on his own, and emotionally clapped them in what looked like a goodbye.

Chelsea's summer spending

Chelsea have spent close to £170m in this transfer window, on Koulibaly, Cucurella, Raheem Sterling and youngster Carney Chukwuemeka.

The signing of Fofana would then take the club's spending to around £250m in new owner Todd Boehly's first window.

The transfer activity isn't stopping there though, with Barcelona pair Frenkie de Jong and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang linked with moves to west London.

There is a real possibility that Chelsea outlay over £300m this summer, which means they need to start offloading unwanted players.
