Despite rumours linking Chelsea midfielder Jorginho with a summer departure, his agent has stated that staying at Stamford Bridge is currently deemed a "priority."

The Italy star has just one year remaining on the five-year deal he signed back in 2018 and has been linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer, with the Blues wishing to avoid a scenario where he'd leave for free next year.

However, Jorginho's agent, Joao Santos has revealed that Jorginho would like to extend his stay at Chelsea by signing a new deal.

Jorginho, 30, joined Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri, and has faced criticism from some sections of supporters since the Italian head coach's exit.

But, he was an integral part of Thomas Tuchel's Champions League winning squad in 2021, and remained a key figure in the squad last season.

Although the Italian international has held his status as a crucial member of the team at Chelsea throughout the course of his time at the club, he has been linked with a move away this summer with the Blues keen to return some money on him.

A return to Serie A, where he thrived at Napoli, has been touted, with Juventus reportedly open to the idea of signing Jorginho this summer.

The Bianconeri have added Denis Zakaria and Manuel Locatelli over the past 12 months, while Paul Pogba is expected to arrive on a free transfer, as they look to re-gig their midfield options.

However, it now seems as though Jorginho won't be on the market, even if Juventus wanted to seriously pursue a deal.

Jorginho to stay at Chelsea

"Chelsea are the priority," Jorginho's agent Santos told Tuttomercatoweb. "The contract will expire in 2023. I think we will talk about the renewal from September."

Last year, Santos stressed that returning to Serie A was the first-choice option for Jorginho, but it seems as though the Chelsea man has had a change of heart.

With midfield additions not at the fore-front of Tuchel's mind, given the attention the defence needs, renewing Jorginho may be the only piece of business Chelsea conduct in that position all summer.
