Chelsea are in talks to sign two top players from Inter Milan, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

These two players are defender Milan Skriniar and right wing-back Denzel Dumfries.

Having lost Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and, likely, Cesar Azpilicueta, Chelsea are in the market for both another centre-back and a right-sided defender who can play at wing-back.

When it comes to a central defender, Chelsea had been in negotiations to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla, but it now seems certain that the France star will join Barcelona.

Chelsea move from Kounde to Skriniar

Chelsea have thus begun to move onto other targets, and Skriniar is on the shortlist of options.

Inter have been in talks to sell Skriniar to PSG but the Ligue 1 side have refused to meet the Nerazzurri’s €65-70 million asking price.

The Italians had planned to sell Skriniar for that amount before signing Torino’s Bremer at half the price, in order to make a much-needed profit.

It is widely reported that Inter need to generate a €60m profit by the end of the summer transfer market and this would have gone a long way to completing this objective.

However, Juventus hijacked the deal for Bremer last week.

Inter must still sacrifice at least one big-name player, and Skriniar and/or Dumfries are the favourites to be let go.

Tuchel likes Dumfries

Like Skriniar, Dumfries is admired by Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel, who wanted to include the Dutchman in the deal that saw Romelu Lukaku return to Inter on loan this summer.

Inter value Dumfries at €40m, but this is a price that Chelsea consider too high.

Dumfries joined Inter from PSV last summer after a successful Euro 2020 and enjoyed an excellent first season at the club.

Talks will continue between the clubs over the coming days.
