Juventus are demanding a transfer fee of around €100 million if they are to sell Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

Chelsea have made the Dutch defender their primary transfer target this summer and have reportedly already tabled an initial offer of cash plus Timo Werner.

This offer has been swiftly rejected by Juventus, who have made it clear that if they are to consider selling De Ligt they will need to receive around €100m in cash.

De Ligt has a €120m release clause in his Juventus contract that will come into play on July 1, although they won’t request this full amount.

WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?

Juventus and De Ligt are at a crossroads this summer.

De Ligt’s contract in Turin expires in 2024, so Juventus know that if the 22-year-old doesn’t sign a new deal then they risk his value plummeting a year from now.

Juventus would prefer to renew his contract as they have already lost Giorgio Chiellini to Los Angeles FC this summer, while Leonardo Bonucci is now 35.

The Bianconeri know that if they were to lose De Ligt too then they would probably need to sign two new centre-backs, as their only other options are rookie Federico Gatti and Daniele Rugani.

But Juventus need to see a signal from De Ligt that he is prepared to stay and extend his contract and so far that has not been forthcoming.

De Ligt is said to be considering his future as he is not sure whether Juventus are building a team that can compete for major honours.

Juventus have finished fourth in the last two seasons and are now well off the very best sides on the continent.

A transfer to Chelsea would allow De Ligt to play in the best league in the world and for a team that can challenge the best in the Champions League.

The next few weeks should be crucial for De Ligt’s future but Juventus are adamant that offers must be around the €100m mark.
