River Plate forward Julian Alvarez is on his way to Manchester City soon, but he’s still showing his quality for the Argentine club, as evident from their most recent Copa Libertadores match.

The Argentine forward signed for Manchester City in the January transfer window, before making a loan return to his boyhood club, and he is proving his worth.

The reigning English champions signed Alvarez hoping to boost their forward ranks which have been lacking since the departure of Sergio Aguero, and they’re hoping Alvarez is the next big thing.

In River Plate’s most recent Copa Libertadores fixture, they faced Alianza Lima of Peru in the group stages of the competition, Alvarez scored an incredible six goals in the club’s 8-1 win.

Alvarez scored a hat-trick in both halves of the match and showed the best of his qualities – his first goal saw him press for the ball before running back into the opposition box to finish.

His third goal was the pick of the bunch as he slotted home from 25 yards out, while the sixth was a solo effort as he beat two defenders before finishing into the net.

For his double hat-trick, Alvarez ended up taking home two match balls, as he became the first-ever River Plate player to score six goals in a single game.

According to data, all six of his goals had an Expected Goals value of 1.84, which showed how impressive this feat was as he ended up scoring about four more goals.

The 22-year-old has already scored 21 goals for River Plate in 2022 so far and is moving to England in the best form of his career thus far.

Alvarez is expected to meet his new Manchester City team-mates in July and is set to form a partnership with their other new signing, Erling Haaland, who is set to move from Borussia Dortmund in a £51 million deal.
