The Dutchman is currently in charge of Ajax, but will leave his post at the conclusion of the current season to take his new role at Old Trafford.

Man Utd have been searching for a new permanent manager since the failed tenure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Veteran coach and former RB Leipzig club executive Ralf Rangnick was appointed interim boss in December, but the plan was to have him see out the season before stepping into an advisory role behind the scenes, focusing on youth development and recruitment.

Several names have been linked with the Man Utd job over the last year, including Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers, Antonio Conte and Diego Simeone.

For most of that time, the front-runner was Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino, but the Argentine's stock fell after the French giants' premature exit from the Champions League at the last-16 stage.

Ten Hag then emerged as favourite, and reports this week have suggested it is already a done deal.

When will Man Utd announce Ten Hag?

According to the Mirror, Man Utd and Ten Hag have agreed a four-year deal with the option of a fifth.

A verbal agreement is in place, and an official confirmation of the appointment is expected after the KNVB Cup final on April 17. Ajax are in that final and take on rivals PSV.

Ten Hag impressed United in a series of interviews, the first of which came well over a month ago.

The reason for the delay is that he wanted assurances over his power regarding transfers, youth development and appointing his own backroom staff.

When will Ten Hag take over at Man Utd?

Ten Hag will begin at Man Utd on 1 July, just five days before a pre-season friendly tour of Thailand and Australia.
