Official: Liverpool sign €60m Luis Diaz from Porto
The Reds will pay an initial €45m (£37.5m) for the 25-year-old, who is a versatile forward capable of playing anywhere across that attacking line.
Although presently away on international duty, Diaz was met by a delegation from Liverpool in Argentina that conducted his medical and oversaw the signing of his contract.
"Liverpool Football Club have completed the signing of Luis Diaz from FC Porto, subject to the successful granting of a work permit and international clearance," the club announced in a statement.
Liverpool rush to sign Diaz
Diaz was considered to be the standout player in the Portuguese top flight this season, netting 15 goals and adding a further five assists. Equally, he scored two goals in six Champions League outings with the club.
Liverpool have been hastened into this transfer by Tottenham. Initially, the plan was to sign Diaz in the summer, but Spurs sought to advance on the player as it became increasingly evident that they would miss out on Wolves’ Adama Traore, who instead went to Barcelona.

Indeed, it has even been reported that Spurs were willing to pay slightly more for the player, who instead had his heart set on a transfer to Liverpool.
Diaz joined Porto in 2019 from Junior FC and has played a total of 125 matches for the club, truly exploding this season in a role on the left of the midfield. Indeed, before this campaign, he had only 12 league goals in total, while he has already matched the number of decisive passes he made in each of his two previous seasons in Portugal.
His versatility and dynamism mean that Diaz is rated as having a strong chance of success at Liverpool, with the 31-time capped winger considered to be an archetypal Jurgen Klopp player.
