Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is not clear, with the Egypt international out of contract in 2023.

While the Reds have managed to sign a succession of key players down to new deals, Salah has thus far eluded them, with reports he is chasing a sizeable wage increase.

Liverpool have been advised to sell the 30-year-old attacker if they receive a bumper offer for him, despite the fact that he is credited to be the world’s most outstanding player at present.

New Barcelona head coach Xavi has been linked with a move for Salah “at all costs”, while a host of other clubs would be interested if he came onto the market, with Paris Saint-Germain mentioned frequently in relation to him.

Speaking to The Echo, former Liverpool, Chelsea and England star Glen Johnson said: “he will demand big wages and he is getting older.

“If they get offered a silly amount of money transfer fee wise, it might be tempting, but you just don’t know. We just have to see what the deal that is offered is when it comes.

“I’m sure Liverpool will be thinking: ‘Great, if it’s at all costs then make us a silly offer. If not, we keep Mo Salah.’ It’s win-win.”

What is Mohamed Salah worth?

Of course, Barcelona’s financial situation makes it impossible for them to make any kind of worthwhile offer to Liverpool – let alone a silly one – but what sort of price should the Reds be aiming to get for Salah?

According to FootballTransfers’ algorithm, which measures the worth of players based on a vast myriad of data points as well as factors such as financial strength of the selling club and contract expiry date, Salah is valued at around €80 million (£67m).

Given his contract status, Salah’s value will start to depreciate in the summer of 2022 and it may be that Liverpool are tempted into a sale for around that figure if contract negotiations are not going well at that point.
