Cristiano Ronaldo has been imperious since returning to Manchester United in the summer.

Even at 36, his powers to deliver greatness on a game-to-game basis appear undimmed.

He scored twice against Atalanta in midweek, including an injury-time equaliser having score a late winner against the same side the last time they played each other.

And in his last Premier League appearance he scored a brilliant volley to put United ahead at Spurs: first time, over the shoulder, struck sweetly across the keeper sneaking in at the far post. A goal not many players could have scored.

Then, for Edinson Cavani's second, he showed great skill using a trick to open up a passing lane and then threaded a ball measured to perfection for the Uruguayan to finish to double United's lead. The two touches from Ronaldo which preceded his involvement were sublime, and again, borne of a player who is quite unlike any other.

Ronaldo's overall record against City is hugely impressive.

He's played 14 matches overall, winning nine times, with two draws and just three defeats. He's also scored five goals and assisted three times.

In Manchester United colours, he's won seven out of 11 matches, with three defeats and a single draw. Four of his five goals against City have come as a United player.

During his time at Real Madrid he also faced City twice in 2012 and once in 2016 when he was part of the team that knocked them out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage. He also scored in a group game against them at the Bernabeu in 2012 and stayed unbeaten against them whilst a member of Los Blancos.

What's Ronaldo's record like against Pep Guardiola?

Against Pep Guardiola as a boss though, it's a completely different story.

Ronaldo, against most teams and managers, enjoys a winning margin which is quite comfortable.

He has played against both Guardiola's Barcelona team and his Bayern Munich team, and the record is not good.

Ronaldo has faced Pep on a total 16 occasions. Only four of those matches have ended in wins, and double that, eight, have ended in defeat.

In those 16 matches, he has managed to score seven times. So that's a winning ratio of one in every four matches, and less than a goal every two games – well below Ronaldo's career averages.
