Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has received some scathing criticism following his performance in the club's FA Cup victory against Plymouth.

The Blues struggled against the League One outfit, eventually having to rely on a goal in extra time to progress with a 2-1 win.

They actually went behind in the game at Stamford Bridge, while Plymouth missed a penalty in the last few minutes to take match to penalties.

There has been one Chelsea player in particular who has received the most criticism, as Lukaku had a very poor day at the office.

The Belgian has been out of sorts for the majority of the campaign and his disappointing form continued in the Cup despite playing against defenders who feature in the third tier of English football.

In 120 minutes of action, Lukaku had zero goals, zero assists, zero completed dribbles and just one duel won.

He only touched the ball 31 times, and looked completely out of sync with his Chelsea team-mates.

Lukaku's performance, and his commitment, have been the subject of comments on social media.

"WHY DOES LUKAKU NOT MOVE?!?!" - @AlexGoldberg_

"We sold Giroud to Milan for £800,000. For reference that’s 2 weeks of Lukaku’s wages. I feel sick." - @CFCDUBois

"I just don’t understand Lukaku, you’ve got the pace to make runs, you’ve got the strength and size to attract attention yet you stand upfront like a lamppost and do nothing, do you expect the ball to fall in front of goal for you? Incredibly embarrassing struggling vs Plymouth." - @CFCPys

"We're at a point where it's not about selling Lukaku because he's "unhappy", it's about selling Lukaku because he's making us worse." - @HarryCFC170

"There is not a £60m difference between Tammy Abraham and Romelu Lukaku. Mistakes were made." @jamesmithdesign

"Board pressure has to be the reason Lukaku is still playing there’s no other explanation." - @lewpacked

"Lukaku is not good on the ground and in the air. Time to try water football." - @Tunnykvng

"Lukaku is far worse than Drinkwater and Bakayoko. Far far worse. It hurts seeing him wear the Chelsea kit." - @CatenaccioEra
