And, according to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato, Napoli have been trying to drum up interest in the 27-year-old, also reportedly offering him to LaLiga clubs Villarreal and Sevilla.

Lozano himself may well be thinking of looking for a new challenge the summer, having struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in 2022/23: he’s made 32 appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s side in all competitions – but half of those have been from the bench.

Turning 28 in July, Lozano is theoretically just about the enter his peak years, which ought to make him an attractive option for clubs all around the continent.

He joined Napoli from PSV in 2019, completing a €42m switch from the Dutch giants – who gave him his break in Europe when they signed him from Mexican outfit Pachuca two years previously.

An affordable option

On the face of it, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle all seem like realistic landing spots for Lozano – who has represented Mexico at the last two World Cups, scoring the winner as they beat then holders Germany in 2018.

Currently valued at €30m by our Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) model, he could add some quality depth to any of those squads at a reasonable price.

Lozano and Napoli could wrap up the Serie A title by the end of the April: as things stand, the Partenopei are 19 points clear of second-placed Lazio as they chase their first scudetto since 1990.
