Manchester United are set to solve a big problem for Ruben Amorim by completing a €44 million transfer.

The Red Devils are still in the process of strengthening their squad after spending more than €250m on four first-team players in the summer, and a fresh influx of cash is required if the Portuguese is to land more targets in January.

The news that Man Utd are close to selling Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli on a permanent deal will, therefore, be music to the ears of the Portuguese head coach.

A deal worth €44m for the Denmark international striker is said to be “imminent”, with Caught Offside reporting that Napoli are “confident” of completing the deal.

Hojlund is already in Serie A, and like Scott McTominay before him, has enjoyed a resurgence under Antonio Conte after leaving Old Trafford. The 22-year-old has scored four times in seven appearances for the Italian champions.

An anonymous source explains: “Napoli are confident. They’re in a strong position with the buy clause and they’re ready to activate it. Talks have been taking place and it should be finalised soon, ready to formally go through at the end of the season.”

Hojlund will sign a four-year deal with the Serie A outfit, keeping him tied to Napoli until 2030.

Hojlund to Napoli closes disappointing Man Utd chapter

Although the income from the deal will be welcome at Man Utd, the Red Devils spent close to €78m signing Hojlund from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, so stand to lose almost half their money in the space of just three years.

The player, meanwhile, has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €43m, which suggests that he will leave for almost exactly his current worth. If he continues to bang in the goals for Napoli, though, expect to see this value rise close to his peak of €68.3m, which would leave United ruing the low purchase clause they put on the striker.

Nevertheless, with this transfer in the bag for next summer, it should give Amorim some freedom to make more signings to bolster his resurgent Man Utd squad.
