Inter Milan have opened talks with Cesc Fabregas for the managerial vacancy at San Siro.

According to multiple sources in the Italian media, Fabregas is Inter’s number one target to succeed Simone Inzaghi.

Inzaghi departed Inter on Tuesday following the 5-0 Champions League final humiliation at the hands of PSG.

The Italian manager has already accepted an offer from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, becoming the world’s best-paid coach.

Who will replace Inzaghi?

Inter are looking to appoint a replacement for Inzaghi this week, ahead of the Club World Cup in the United States.

It is unanimously reported that Arsenal legend Fabregas is their preferred choice for the post.

Inter have already opened talks with the Spaniard, who enjoyed an impressive first season in management with Como in Serie A this past season.

Footmercato claims that Fabregas has given his okay to the Inter post and that the Nerazzurri now need to come to an agreement with Como.

Fabregas has already rejected offers from Bayer Leverkusen and Roma this summer, and recently promised to stay with Como for another season.

Gianluca Di Marzio says that Como are confident he will stay with them.

If Fabregas doesn't go to Inter, there are two alternatives Inter have on their shortlist.

These are former Inter stars Patrick Vieira and Christian Chivu.

Vieira impressed with Genoa after taking over mid-season, while Chivu saved Parma from relegation after joining in the last months of the campaign.

Roberto De Zerbu had been the second choice to Fabregas but on Tuesday he confirmed that he is staying at Marseille next season.

Inter’s next manager has big shoes to fill as Inzaghi won six trophies during his four years at Inter, including one Scudetto.

He also reached two Champions League finals, losing both times to Man City in 2023 and PSG in 2025.

The 5-0 defeat to PSG last week is the biggest final defeat in the history of the Champions League.
