AC Milan directors Frederic Massara and Paolo Maldini have intensified their negotiations with Theo Hernández over a new contract. That’s according to Calciomercato, who explain that a five-year extension is on the table. Already the left-back is committed to the Rossoneri until 2024, but he has been playing at such a high level that the club want to agree a longer term deal.

Theo Hernández could almost triple his wages through this new deal, with the France international set to see his salary rise from around €1.5m to €4m plus bonuses. He is keen to stay at the San Siro and the talks are said to be progressing well.

Manchester City and PSG’s interest in Theo Hernández

The rush to complete the contract extension comes because of the interest of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. AC Milan have lost good players in the past due to shorter term contracts and they don’t want to make that same mistake with a player who scored eight goals and provided eight assists last season.

Left-back is a problematic position for Manchester City right now, due to Benjamin Mendy’s legal troubles and the fact that João Cancelo and Oleksandr Zinchenko aren’t natural left-backs. Pep Guardiola is believed to be a big fan of Theo Hernández and the English champions have been following this situation closely.

PSG, meanwhile, are always on the lookout for the best talent from around Europe and have regularly brought players to the club after standing out in Serie A. When the player in question is a France international, which Theo Hernández is after making his debut for Les Bleus in September, that is even more appealing to PSG.

Aware of the interest from these two clubs with almost unlimited resources, AC Milan have reacted quickly and pulled up a seat across from their player and his agent at the negotiating table. There are still some details to be worked out, but a new contract for the left-back could be completed very soon as AC Milan look to make the former Real Madrid man one of the pillars of their project.
