Rangers boss Russell Martin has reportedly been given one more league game to save his job following a dismal start to the new season.

The Ibrox giants are yet to earn their first win of the Scottish Premiership campaign and they are currently languishing down in 10th place, having picked up just four points from their opening five matches.

The appointment of Martin back in June was met with widespread criticism from Rangers supporters, following his performances with Southampton in the Premier League, and almost the entire fanbase is now eager for him to be sacked.

Things reached an all-time low following a 2-0 defeat to Hearts on Saturday afternoon and Martin has been heavily linked with the sack as Rangers ponder whether or not to retain faith in the 39-year-old.

Reports in Scotland have confirmed that Martin still has the support of the Ibrox hierarchy, although TEAMtalk now claim that he has one league game to “save” his job as the club’s head coach.

Rangers could remarkably be rock-bottom of the Scottish Premiership table by the time their next league game against Livingston rolls around on 29 September, and Martin has been tasked with earning the club’s first league win of the season.

If Rangers fail to emerge victorious, it seems as though Martin will become the first managerial casualty in the Scottish top flight this campaign.

Russell Martin: I won’t resign

Following Rangers’ defeat to Hearts on Saturday, Martin confirmed that he will not step down from his post at Ibrox.

He told reporters: “You have to fight to get here in the first place, and we'll keep fighting until we're told not to. I don't think I've ever walked away from anything in my life.

“I knew coming here wouldn't be easy. The majority [of fans] didn't want me here in the first place, which is fine, so then you have to try and change that around with results.

“At the minute all they see is the 90 minutes at the end of the week, so I understand the frustration, I'm as frustrated as anyone at the moment but we'll be here and we'll work until I'm told not to. It really is that simple.

“You have to fight in this industry to survive, you have to fight to get here in the first place, and we'll keep fighting until we're told not to.”
