Rangers have been told that Davide Ancelotti remains very interested in becoming the club’s next manager, with Spanish football expert Guillem Balague revealing the latest on the deal.

The latest reports in Glasgow indicate that former Southampton boss Russell Martin leads the way but Balague, who has previously reported on the deal via BBC Sport, says that Ancelotti remains a strong candidate.

The son of the legendary Carlo Ancelotti, who he has worked with as an assistant coach at the likes of PSG and Real Madrid, Davide is a name certainly not to be ruled out at this point.

Balague took to X to report: “Rangers have to decide between Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti. They both like very much the idea. That is the latest I am hearing. Logically the decision should be soon, it would make sense that it takes not longer than the end of the week.”

Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday that Martin is poised to take the job, indicating that they are “closing in” on the ex-Saints boss.

With the sentiment in Glasgow veering heavily towards Ancelotti over the former Scotland international, who turned out for Rangers as a player, this is news that will be warmly welcomed on the south side of the Clyde.

An exciting summer ahead at Ibrox

Rangers were subject to a successful takeover by 49ers Enterprises earlier this week, which is expected to hurry along the decision over the next manager and should also prompt a significant investment in the summer transfer window.

The Gers’ new owner have promised an immediate investment in the club that could lead to the Ibrox side posting a record summer transfer spend.

Whether Martin or Ancelotti is the new Ibrox boss, they have a good deal of work to do in order to bridge the gap to a Celtic side that won the Scottish Premiership by 17 points last season.
