Although the Hoops romped to another Premiership title, the appetite for improvement remains as great as ever, particularly with rivals Rangers set for a fresh injection of funds.

Nygren only has six months left on his contract at Nordsjaelland, where he is coming off the back of a prolific season. Last term, the 23-year-old netted 15 goals in 30 league matches, showing versatility and quality when playing off either wing. On top of this, he has two goals in four appearances for Sweden.

Sky Sport Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri has confirmed that Anderlecht have given up the chase to sign the attacker.

Taking to X, he reports: “Anderlecht now consider that Benjamin Nygren will go to Celtic FC! After talks with his representatives, Anderlecht understand that Nygren has chosen the Scottish club over them.

“The Sweden international is now expected to complete his move to the Premiership.”

What type of player is Benjamin Nygren?

Nygren is a goal-scoring winger who is very attack-focused in his play. He is an exciting dribbler and is an ideal player to breakdown deep-lying opponents, making a strong fit for the challenges that Celtic face on a weekly basis in Scotland.

He was rated as one of the Danish league’s top dribblers by data analytics firm SciSports, who compare him in style to Vaclav Cerny, who was on loan at Rangers last season and is a player well known to Celtic fans.

But while he is strong offensively, his defensive work is also impressive, making him a complete player for Celtic. He is both strong positionally, in terms of controlling counters and also generating counterattacks with his pressing, making him a strong choice for Champions League football.

Both strong and quick, he looks an excellent addition to this already formidable Celtic team.
