Monaco confirm Paul Pogba debut timeline after injury setback
Paul Pogba's scheduled Monaco debut has been postponed by at least two weeks after he suffered an injury setback last week.
The former France international is still waiting to make his comeback to competitive football following his 18-month doping ban, which has now kept him out of action for more than two years.
Pogba had his Juventus contract terminated in late 2024 and didn't sign for a new club until the summer, when Ligue 1 outfit Monaco decided to take a chance on him.
Despite the 32-year-old having kept himself fit in Miami during his absence from the game, Monaco recognised that it would take a while to get him match-ready again. They drew up a special three-month training regime for the midfielder, which should have ended by now.
However, Pogba suffered a minor muscle injury during training last week. He had been pencilled in to feature in Monaco's upcoming game against Angers on Saturday, but he will have to wait a bit longer for his debut.
Pogba to be out for at least two weeks
Speaking at the official unveiling of new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli on Tuesday, Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro confirmed that Pogba had been dealt a small injury blow and revealed that he would not be able to play for another two weeks.
“We expected him to be available for the next match,” Scuro said. “That is no longer the case. Paul had a small problem last week that will cost us at least two more weeks.
"It is the first negative episode that we have had since we started the process with him. Given how long he has been out of action, it can happen. It isn’t the end of the world.
"We have just postponed [his debut] for two weeks to prepare him better. We hope to have him available soon.” In addition to the clash with Angers, Pogba will also miss next week's Champions League clash with Tottenham and the subsequent Ligue 1 match against Toulouse.
