Christophe Galtier remains calm over Kylian Mbappe’s future despite Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League exit, insisting he doesn’t need to ‘convince’ the forward to stay at the club.

Mbappe’s contract which he renewed last summer is set to expire in 2024 and the 24-year-old has until June to let PSG know whether he will take up the option to extend it for a further year.

Mbappe was downbeat after PSG missed out on European silverware for another year but Galtier insisted that he had no concerns over his star man’s commitment to the club.

“I do not have to try to convince Kylian [to stay],' the PSG boss said. “Kylian has expressed it himself, but if you had asked any player you would have found him in the same state -- very disappointed after the elimination.”

“Concerning Kylian, he is a PSG player and he shows it in every game. He has a great determination to succeed and to perform well in order to help bring the club up to as high a level as possible.”

’We’ll see afterwards’: Mbappe concentrating on PSG…for now

Mbappe raised eyebrows his with response to being knocked out of the Champions League, claiming that the outcome was the best PSG could achieve compared to Bayern, who have a team capable of winning the tournament.

"We are disappointed. That's how it is, we have to move on, try to challenge everyone," Mbappe said. "They [Bayern] have a team built to win the Champions League.

"At the start of the season, during the first Champions League press conference, I said that we were going to do our best. This is our maximum. We're going to question ourselves and go back to our daily life in the championship."
