Monaco sold Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid for €100 million this summer. Reinvesting €15m of that on Mohamed Camara is proving very shrewd indeed…

Camara has hit the ground running at the Stade Louis II, playing alongside Youssouf Fofana in central midfield and averaging more than three successful tackles per game, helping the principality side up to sixth.

Still just 22, Camara was already a regular for the senior Mali national team who had won back-to-back domestic doubles with Red Bull Salzburg before making the move.

What position does Camara play in?

Camara is a central midfielder who love nothing better than breaking up play in front of his defence before moving the game forward, either by passing or carrying the ball into the opposition half, sometimes into the final third.

At 5'7"-tall, Camara also has a low centre of gravity which facilitates his play on both sides of the ball. Stylistically, it isn't that different to watching Chelsea and France star N'Golo Kante.

How good is Camara?

Camara is an asset defending and attacking, and although he hasn't added a meaningful number of goals to his game yet - not his job, one might argue - he has averaged more than two shot-creating actions per 90 minutes with Monaco.

As well as his double of Austrian Bundesliga and Cup, Camara was also part of the Mali under-20 side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in Niger in 2019.

What clubs are interested in Camara?

Everton were reportedly in for Camara before he swapped Salzburg for Monaco, and while scouts from Brighton and Leeds were also spotted at his games last season.

The path to Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain is also a well-trodden one, and clubs of that calibre are sure to be keeping tabs at his current trajectory.
