Why Bellingham is 'too clever' for Chelsea or Man Utd move next summer

Jude Bellingham continued his remarkable start to the season this week when Borussia Dortmund overcame Besiktas to pick up all three points in the first game of their Champions League campaign.

In a 2-1 victory in Istanbul, the England midfielder was on hand to put his Bundesliga side in front after just 20 minutes when he ran onto a through ball from Thomas Meunier to fire the ball past the front post.

However, Bellingham was only getting started and just before the whistle blew for half time the Dortmund star darted into the box and fired the ball across the six-yard box to allow Erling Haaland to double the team’s lead.

The remarkable performance now means that Bellingham is standing all on two goals and four assists from his first seven games of the season and is quickly delivering on the incredible potential he showed at Birmingham City.

Who is interested in buying Bellingham?

Following an impressive first season in Germany and a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020, Bellingham’s profile in England has shot through the roof and as such the midfielder has been linked with a number of big clubs.

As is often the case, these reports tend to revolve around the clubs with the deepest pockets, most notably Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. While Liverpool have also been strongly linked with the Dortmund midfielder since Gini Wijnaldum’s departure for Paris Saint-Germain.

However, while a number of clubs may be taking an interest in the young player, it seems unlikely that he’ll be returning to England in a hurry.

Why will Bellingham stay at Dortmund?

Although Bellingham may currently be playing like a seasoned professional, he’s only just getting started at Dortmund and will be well aware of the development in front of him at the Bundesliga side.

As the son of a former player, Bellingham will know that at this stage in his career minutes on the pitch and experience are worth far more than bigger salaries and high-profile moves to Premier League clubs that may happily stick him on the bench.

Indeed, as Patrick Berger at Sport1 concludes, Bellingham is simply ‘too clever’ to cut short his development at Dortmund after his first full season as a starter at the Bundesliga side when offers or reports start flying in during the off-season.

Very few in Dortmund expect the England international to spend his entire career at the Westfalenstadion, but they also highly doubt he’ll be sold or demand a move anytime soon.
