Rashford has 14 goal contributions in 20 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona since joining the club on a season-long loan and the La Liga giants have an option to buy him next summer for around €30 million.

While concerns remain about Rashford’s wage demands, Mundo Deportivo report that, ‘as of today’, the 28-year-old is ‘closer to staying than leaving’ after his impressive performances.

In particular, Barcelona ‘highly value’ Rashford’s versatility and impact during Raphinha’s absence through injury in the last two months as well as his chemistry with the team after boasting eight assists this season.

However, much will be determined by Rashford’s second half to the season as well as his reaction to playing less amid the return of Raphinha, with an appreciation for the England star’s ability creating competition in attack across the squad.

The forward has also adapted to life off the pitch and regularly spoken highly of the ‘perfect scenario’ he has found himself in, while Barcelona’s ‘internal satisfaction’ means United could already have their first sale of the summer on the cards.

Rashford ultimatum puts Man Utd in uncomfortable position with Barcelona

Whatever happens next year, Rashford will not be returning to United, with Ruben Amorim still unaltered on his stance that saw the club’s academy graduate banished from the first team during the summer.

United are desperate to get Rashford’s wages permanently off the books and secure some pure profit through his sale.

However, their desperation for a sale could prompt Barcelona to try and negotiate a lower fee given their leverage in being Rashford’s preferred destination.

The likes of Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with moves for Rashford but the player is understood to have told United that he would only be willing to join Barcelona.

Rashford’s contract at Old Trafford expires in 2028 and it remains to be seen whether a financial compromise will be reached, either with his wage demands or the transfer fee, in order for Barca to afford a permanent purchase.
