Barcelona are in the market for a new left-winger and Philogene's name was rumoured to be on their shortlist.

However, it now appears that the links were made up by the 22-year-old's representative.

According to journalist Gerard Romero, Philogene's agent showed up at Barcelona's offices unannounced and began a photo shoot in the car park.

It was thought to be a PR exercise to further increase the speculation surrounding his client.

Despite the recent rumours and the actions of his agent, Barcelona are said to have no interest whatsoever in Philogene, with at least two other targets in their thinking.

Barcelona's left-wing targets

Barcelona's top left-wing transfer target is Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.

His release clause is set at €55 million, which is not an unreasonable fee for a player of his quality, but Barca are in well-documented financial difficulty.

As a result, they may be forced to look elsewhere, and it would appear that they have already found a 'plan B'.

Indeed, Spanish journalist Marcos Benito told El Chiringuito TV that the Catalan club are interested in Uruguayan winger Maximiliano Araujo.

Araujo, who plays for Mexican club Toluca, is enjoying a fantastic Copa America campaign.

He scored against both Panama and Bolivia as Marcelo Bielsa's side went unbeaten in the group stage.

With a release clause of €20m, the 24-year-old would be a much cheaper alternative to Williams.
