Talk of Alphonso Davies moving to Real Madrid is growing ever louder.

The Bayern Munich star is only under contract until 2025 and negotiations over a new deal will be tough, with some believing that there is no chance of the Bavarians reaching an agreement with the ambitious Canadian.

This has put Los Blancos on alert as they look to upgrade on a position that has been a cause for some concern ever since the departure of the legendary Marcelo. Ferland Mendy has never managed to live up to the hype and his persistent fitness issues are a major headache.

Fran Garcia, meanwhile, was brought back to the club in the summer, but he too has had an up-and-down time of it so far. This means that Davies is high up on the list of Real targets despite their ongoing pursuit of players further forward like Kylian Mbappe and potentially Erling Haaland.

Still only 23, Davies has been highly rated since bursting onto the scene as a teenager at Vancouver in MLS and it is easy to forget just how good he is given the position he plays in.

A move to Madrid on the cards?

Recent reports out of Spain suggested that his Real Madrid transfer in the summer is a "certainty" and this sentiment, although less strongly, has been echoed by other outlets as well.

90min reports that Los Blancos are ready to offload Mendy in a bid to finance their summer pursuit of Davies who could, if an agreement with Bayern on a new deal can't be reached, had for a relatively affordable fee. Mundo Deportivo, under the headline of Davies being "closer to Madrid than Munich," relays that a sum of €50 million could be enough.

Everything will ultimately hinge on the Canadian's contract talks. He is asking for a significant pay rise from Bayern and wants guarantees over the club's ambitions going forward.

The Bavarians' current situation - behind Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, knocked out of the cup by third-tier Saarbrücken and not looking good enough to seriously challenge for the Champions League - casts doubt on their ability to keep their star players like Davies, Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich, who are all facing contract uncertainty.
