Why Real Madrid WON'T sign Kylian Mbappe despite long-term interest

Real Madrid have reportedly cooled their interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe because they think Vinicius Junior is a better player.

Mbappe, 24, has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu for several years, and many expected him to join Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer.

However, after a drawn-out transfer saga, the Frenchman opted to extend his contract at PSG instead of moving to Spain. But, that decision could cost him the chance of ever realising his dream of playing for Los Blancos.

Having missed out on his signature in 2022, Real Madrid have moved on from Mbappe and their short-term vision does not include the Frenchman, according to Marca.

The main reason for Real Madrid abandoning their plan to sign Mbappe is Vinicius Jr. The report details that Los Blancos simply believe the Brazilian is currently a better player than Mbappe on current form.

With the pair likely to operate in a similar area on the pitch, signing Mbappe would hinder Vinicius Jr, which is something that Real Madrid want to avoid.

The Frenchman's contract at PSG is set to expire in 2024, which could spark a change in Real Madrid's mindset regarding a possible transfer, but for now, Mbappe won't be joining Real Madrid.

Vinicius Jr has 23 goals and assisted a further 21 in all competitions this season, while Mbappe currently stands on 38 goals and nine assists for the campaign.

Real Madrid’s transfer business

The Spanish giants are set to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham after agreeing personal terms with the former Birmingham City academy star, while Brazilian wonderkid Endrick will join the club in 2024. Fran Garcia has also been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Aurelien Tchouameni has been linked with an exit after losing his place in the starting XI, but he reportedly won’t be allowed to leave. Arsenal have also expressed interest in Ferland Mendy, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be allowed to depart.
