Real Madrid will attempt to fend off interest in Eduardo Camavinga from Manchester United by tying the midfielder down to a new deal with an astonishing €1bn release clause.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakout 12 months, helping Real win the LaLiga title, Champions League and Club World Cup – as well as reaching the World Cup final with France.

And Camavinga’s recent exploits for club and country appear to have caught the eye of a number of top clubs, among them Man Utd – who are well on course to return to the Champions League next term.

The prospect of any player moving for €1bn is barely fathomable, but Camavinga would be far from the first current Real star to have their release clause set at that eye-watering amount: Los Blancos did exactly that when negotiating new deals with Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Eder Miliato last year.

And it’s a mark of the exceedingly high regard in which they hold Camavinga that, per The Athletic, they want to do likewise. With pretty much his whole career ahead of him, this is the man Real could build their midfield around for the next decade or more.

Camavinga joined Real as an 18-year-old in 2021 from Rennes, having become the Ligue 1 club’s youngest-ever player at the age of 16.

He’s made at least 40 appearances in each of his two seasons at the Bernabeu so far, making himself “untouchable” in the eyes of manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Born in Angola, Camavinga gained French citizenship in 2019 and made his France debut the following year. He featured twice at the 2022 World Cup, coming off the bench in the final defeat to Argentina.
