Enzo Fernandez has had a fine World Cup with Argentina so far, and he took it a step further with his goal against Mexico on Saturday evening.

He scored a great goal, coming in from the left side and curling it into the net, doubling Argentina’s lead and boosting their hopes of qualification after a loss to start the campaign.

Many have called for Fernandez to start games after Giovanni Lo Celso’s injury, and he has proven he deserves that chance, with changes due to the starting team in Argentina’s final group game against Poland.

Now, there is also a rise in interest in him, with the Benfica star’s impressive performances noted across Europe and Real Madrid may show more concrete interest.

Real Madrid eyeing Fernandez

Fernandez has attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs in recent months

having only made a move to Benfica from River Plate over the summer.

Last month, it was reported the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City were tracking his progress with a view to making a move next year.

However, Real Madrid are serious about their interest in the player and have identified him as an alternative for Jude Bellingham if they are unable to land the Englishman.

That could work in Liverpool’s favour, who have always maintained Bellingham is their top priority for the midfield and they would like to have a free run at him.

Fernandez won’t come in cheap for any club with Benfica saying any interested sides would have to meet his release clause if they want to sign him.

Fernandez moved to Benfica for a €21 million fee in the summer but signing him will cost €120 million if any clubs pays his release clause in the future.

The Argentine’s World Cup displays could raise his stock even further and competition for him may become even more rife in the coming weeks.
