Marco Asensio’s future at Real Madrid has been in doubt in recent times, but there may be a change in that in the coming months.

The winger is in the final season of his contract with the Spanish and European champions and it was believed that Real Madrid were willing to let him go at the end of the campaign.

With that, clubs across Europe were circling for his signature, with many in England taking notice of it and looking for a way to make a move.

However, they may have to halt their plans now as reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid may be willing to offer Asensio a new deal to keep him at the club and avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Real Madrid perform Asensio U-turn

Asensio is still only 26 and has plenty of years left in him to impress, having seen the last few years at Real Madrid affected by injury and fitness issues.

Clubs in England such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United were looking to move for him in the summer, and were hoping to get him on a free transfer next year.

However, those plans may have to be altered as Ser Deportivos are now reporting that Asensio is set to be offered a three-year extension to ensure his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid had been in talks with Asensio for months prior but were unable to reach an agreement on personal terms, with the Spanish club planning for the future without him.

They planned to bring back Brahim Diaz from Milan to act as Asensio’s replacement for the long run, but even those ideas may have to be altered soon.

Asensio hasn’t had plenty of first-team opportunities at Real Madrid with the likes of Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo taking up places ahead of him.

Now, he’ll be hoping to change that if he does renew with the club and will want to make an impact for them, free of injury and fitness issues.
