His exploits had been restricted to the Palmeiras youth team – until now. He was handed his professional debut on Thursday in a Brazilian Serie A match against Coritiba. It was a game that ended in a resounding 4-0 success for the home side and allowed them to blood their greatest young talent.

With 69 minutes gone, Endrick replaced Rony, who had second the second goal. By that point, Palmeiras were already 3-0, and though their latest young star would not net the fourth – that honour went to Breno Lopes – he made history just by being on the field.

Endrick shatters records

At 16 years, two months and 25 days, Enrick being the club’s youngest ever player. He also became the youngest player to ever play in the Brasileirao.

If he is to become Palmeiras’ youngest ever goalscorer, he has around four months to find the net.

His brief cameo suggests this is possible. He showed good movement and excellent positioning, while he twice went close to scoring.

Certainly, he provided a buzz around the ground, with the crowd chanting ‘Endrick is a terror!’.

His debut has been a long-awaited event. Endrick signed professional terms in July when he turned 16, which is the minimum age to sign such a contract. Since then, he has turned out for the youth team and has also appeared on the bench of the first team. A combination of difficult fixtures and circumstances meant that he was not involved until Thursday, when he became the 15th academy player to feature for his club this season.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and a host of Premier League clubs are closely following Endrick’s progress and they will be eager to see how he fares in the big time with Palmeiras.
