Real Madrid are poised to send a letter of complaint to FIFA regarding referee Jesus Gil Manzano after he sent off new signing Dean Huijsen in the club’s La Liga victory over Real Sociedad.

Huijsen received just the second red card of his career in San Sebastian following his €62.5 million summer move from Bournemouth.

The decision, however, was a highly controversial one. The Dutch-born Spain international was dismissed for a last-man challenge on Mikel Oyarzabal around the halfway line. There appeared little clear evidence he denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity given that there was a team-mate in the vicinity to cover.

VAR referee Jorge Figueroa Vazquez elected not to give the official an opportunity to study his error.

With Kylian Mbappe having had a goal disallowed in the encounter, Real Madrid were left fuming and, according to AS, are prepared to take the case to FIFA.

Los Blancos are reportedly producing a dossier “on the refereeing errors suffered in these first four La Liga matches, and also last season.”

’Referee deserves restraining order’

Real Madrid’s TV commentators slammed the officiating:

“This league is an embarrassment because of what we've just experienced right now. Real Madrid are playing with one less player. Huijsen sent off and Xabi Alonso given a yellow card, obviously because he's outraged like all Real Madrid fans. This is a disgrace to the competition.

“They've distorted reality again. They've once again turned a play that's not interpretable into something interpretable… Huijsen isn't the last player; they twist reality and justify this kind of thing. The consequences? We'll see them, but they've distorted reality.”

Later in the same broadcast, it was claimed that “restraining orders” are required against the two officials from taking charge of Real Madrid fixtures again in the future.

Goals from Mbappe and Arda Guler prevented any great damage to the title challenge of Alonso’s side, who have won four from four in La Liga to top the table through four games.
