Barcelona target Denzel Dumfries as Inter ROCKED by star player rift rumours
Barcelona are ready to explore a transfer for Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries as the Champions League finalists battle claims that two star players are at war with each other.
Barca have examined the possibility of signing Dumfries previously in the past but they are reportedly ready to step up a move for him once again, Fichajes reports.
The Blaugrana’s interest has been fuelled by the fact that the Netherlands international star has a €25 million release clause that will come into effect from the middle of July, following the Club World Cup, which the Serie A giants were dumped out of in the last 16.
Dumfries, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €30.6m, has well established himself as an offensive machine from deep in the field. Last season alone, he scored 11 goals and created five more under Simone Inzaghi.
Now Barcelona are attracted by that potential level of output, with Jules Kounde a far more conservative option in that area. In addition, Barca also lack depth on the right.
No formal move has been made, but the interest is firm and Dumfries is seen as an excellent transfer market opportunity.
Rumours of Inter rift
Inter are not only battling the potential departure of one of their key figures. They are also fighting rumours of an internal rift between Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez, who has often been linked with a move to Barcelona in the past.
Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, suggests that Thuram was left unhappy with comments Lautaro made following the Club World Cup loss to Fluminense.
“Anyone who wants to stay, stay. But anyone who doesn’t want to stay can leave… I’ve seen things that I didn’t like. We need players who want to be here… If you don’t want to be here, then leave,” the Argentine said.
Inter are hopeful the pair can mend their differences and do not plan to sell Thuram unless his €85m release fee is met.
