Fabrizio Romano has announced Real Madrid’s next signing, with Xabi Alonso’s side continuing to make quick progress in the transfer market.

Los Blancos are competing in the Club World Cup later this month, and having already confirmed deals for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, they will do so with a new-look side.

Franco Mastantuono: Real Madrid still have work to do

Reports on Thursday indicated that Real Madrid had struck an agreement with the 17-year-old Argentine, with the role of Alonso in the deal not to be underestimated as the Spanish side beat out competition from Paris Saint-Germain to land the playmaker.

There is still some uncertainty over when Mastantuono will sign for the Spanish side. The indications previously were that he wanted to stay with River Plate to play in the Club World Cup.

Indeed, the Argentines had hoped to keep their star player until the end of the year to compete in the Copa Libertadores. Real Madrid had not been planning on signing Mastantuono until January either, yet they have been forced into action following PSG stepping up their chase for the player.

Negotiations over the structure of the transfer payments to release him from River Plate are, therefore, not expected to be straightforward for Real Madrid.

Mastantuono’s release fee, which has been more widely reported as €45m, is well in excess of his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €18.4m, yet Real Madrid appear to believe that is a price worth paying to win the race for the talented teen.
