Tottenham are plotting to hijack Barcelona’s move for Lucas Bergvall of Djurgardens as the Catalans’ miserable January transfer window threatens to end on a low on Deadline Day.

On the field, Barca have endured a difficult period that has seen them lose key matches against Real Madrid and Villarreal, while Xavi has announced his intention to stand down as head coach at the end of the season.

Reinforcements have proven out of reach, with the exception of Vitor Roque, who has been drafted in ahead of schedule, while Alex Balde faces a long injury layoff along with Gavi.

Bergvall had been earmarked as a late addition to bolster Barca’s ranks, but they face a serious late threat from Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have made Bergvall a promise that is enticing, as Mundo Deportivo reports.

“The reason that Bergvall has not yet signed for Barca is that Tottenham have jumped in to sign him, promising that he will join the first team now. Meanwhile, Barca's proposal was to straddle the line between the reserve team and the first team but starting next season,” the paper reveals.

On top of this, Sport reports that Spurs have offered the 17-year-old a greater financial package, but it is noted that the English club cannot sign him until he turns 18, which is on Friday – one day after the registration deadline.

Bergvall has visited Barcelona but has not given the club an affirmative response yet, with Tottenham’s move causing him to think.

Romano: Barcelona confident and optimistic on Bergvall

Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona are bullish over their chances of landing the Djurgardens teenager.

“Barcelona remain confident and optimistic on Lucas Bergvall deal after meetings in the last two days,” he claims on X.

“Tottenham keep calling player’s camp to hijack the move — important proposal made. But Barca remain confident, expecting Lucas to give green light on Thursday.”

Barcelona have already agreed a transfer fee with Djurgadens, which is expected to reach €12 million including bonus payments.
