PSG have no intention of letting Kylian Mbappe join Real Madrid this summer.

That is according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who reports that PSG see Mbappe as an indispensable part of their future plans.

What did Romano say about Mbappe?

“PSG see Mbappe as crucial player for their project and this has still not changed, so nothing new or fresh on this story,” Romano said on CaughtOffside..

“It’s normal to have transfer rumours like this after the Champions League fiasco for PSG but the club consider Mbappe as crucial part of the project, so I wouldn’t read too much into the growing Real Madrid links for the time being.”

Real Madrid have returned to make Mbappe their top attacking transfer target for the summer, according to multiple sources.

Mbappe’s contract in Paris expires in 2024, unless he decides to activate the option in his contract to extend his deal for a further year.

Marca has reported that unless Mbappe activates this option in the next months, PSG will be forced to sell him to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year. As things stands, Mbappe has no interest in extending.

But Romano insists that PSG have no intention of letting Mbappe go.

Mbappe to Real Madrid talks in 2022

Mbappe had seemed destined to join Real Madrid last summer but completed a dramatic turnaround by penning a two-year extension with PSG at the end of May 2022.

Throughout 2021-22, it had been unanimously accepted that he would sign for Madrid on a Bosman transfer when his previous PSG contract expired.

Having rejected a €200 million bid from Real Madrid for Mbappe in the summer of 2021, the Frenchman was believed to have already agreed a free transfer move to the club he supported as a child.

This was reinforced by the fact that he rejected numerous offers of a PSG extension throughout the 2021-22 campaign.

But, in a shock twist, Mbappe decided to sign a new deal at PSG.

It was thought that the new deal at PSG ran until 2025 but it has since been revealed it actually expires in 2024, with the option of a further year.

Only Mbappe himself – and not PSG – have the option of extending the deal by a further year.
