Liverpool and Real Madrid on red alert as Michael Olise transfer timeline revealed

Michael Olise is a dream target for Liverpool and Real Madrid, and the Bayern Munich superstar is once again set to be one of the protagonists of the transfer window next summer.

The France international found himself in the spotlight earlier this year. Coming off a spectacular season with Bayern Munich and some impressive World Cup performances with France, Olise was a man in demand.

With 22 goals and 31 assists in 2025/26, the 24-year-old emerged as world football's best right-winger, which naturally put him on the radar of clubs looking to strengthen that position.

Most notably, Liverpool were in the market for a long-term Mohamed Salah replacement, while Real Madrid also wanted to sign a specialist right-winger, having had to make do with makeshift solutions on that flank for years.

In fact, it was believed that Olise was the mystery player Florentino Perez promised to make a bid for during his Real Madrid re-election campaign, but this offer never materialised as Bayern made it clear that they would not entertain the departure of their left-footed magician.

Olise extension not set in stone

The Munich outfit's repeated public statements that even a €200 million offer would not be accepted ultimately had the desired effect. Real Madrid released a statement confirming that they would not pursue Olise in 2026.

However, this saga is far from over. Although Liverpool and Real Madrid spent big on wingers this summer, signing Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande, respectively, the right flank remains an area of concern for both.

What's more, Bayern want to reward Olise with an improved contract and tie him to the club beyond 2029. These discussions will reveal the direction of travel for next summer.

If Olise is receptive to Bayern's proposal and agrees to extend, he will be pretty much guaranteed to stay at least until 2028. However, were he to stall on signing fresh terms, it would be a strong indication that he does not see his long-term future in Munich.

And unlike Harry Kane, who has never made a secret of his desire to land a new Bayern contract, Olise has yet to show whether he has any interest in extending. This has now been confirmed by club director Max Eberl.

"Michael has developed exceptionally well with us," he told BILD. "We will definitely sit down at the appropriate time and discuss how to proceed. He still has a three-year contract, and I must emphasise this, without a release clause. Let me put it this way: we should know by next summer whether he's inclined to extend or not."

In other words, if Olise hasn't made a decision by the start of the next summer window, Bayern will have to inevitably consider offers. At present, however, there are no signs that the Frenchman wants to leave.

"Michael sent me a WhatsApp message during the World Cup," Eberl recalled with a smile. "I hesitated for a moment before opening it. I didn't know if he might actually bring up this topic [of a transfer].

"But it was a photo with Manu Kone, whom I had signed for Gladbach back in the day, with a heart underneath. The two of them sent me warm greetings from America.

"After that, I asked Michael if he wanted the number 11 next season. But he wanted to keep number 17. That was my only contact with Michael, so everything was always fine."
