Barcelona have refused to distance themselves from a transfer for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, with president Joan Laporta indicating that head coach Xavi still wants more players before his squad is complete.

Barca have undertaken the most remarkable transfer window of any club in world football this summer. After signing Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen on free transfers, they have made three big-money moves for Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde, fuelled by the sale of the club’s La Liga television rights.

At the presentation of Kounde, Laporta admitted that more business could be completed before the transfer window shuts, with Man City star Bernardo Silva thought to be among the club’s leading priorities.

Although a deal is unlikely to be imminent, the president has hinted that there are transfers in the pipeline.

“First we have to register the players we have signed and that's what we're working on,” he said. “We also have to resolve the futures of the players not in the manager's plans. First, we have to do that. After, we will see what we can do. The coach wants more reinforcements.”

In order to register their new players, Barcelona’s only option is to cut down their wage bill by offloading players.

Numerous stars are linked with a move away from Camp Nou, with Samuel Umtiti touted for an unlikely transfer to Greece. Riqui Puig is another who is likely to be cast off imminently, while there is also the potential of a blockbuster move for Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United or Chelsea.

The likelihood is that the Catalans will need several of these deals to come to fruition before they can seriously think about signing again.

Nevertheless, Barcelona have reportedly got buy in Bernardo Silva, who is interested in a summer transfer to Camp Nou, despite featuring prominently for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
