Barcelona have made it clear that they have been interested in a move for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, and that appreciation may be reciprocated by the player.

The Catalan club have targeted the player in case Frenkie de Jong leaves for Manchester United, and with that move reportedly close, the Blaugrana may accelerate proceedings to secure the Portuguese player’s signature.

Manchester City have also made it clear that they wouldn’t stand in the player’s way should Silva decide he wants to leave the Etihad Stadium.

Barcelona were interested in Silva last year, but due to their difficult financial condition, they weren’t able to complete the move.

The club recently activated economic levers, selling certain shares of their assets to raise funds, and that is likely to raise their transfer budget this summer as they look to build a competitive team.

Silva tells Barcelona he wants move

From Silva’s side, there is reportedly a desire to make the move happen as well, according to the Spanish media, as he has been in contact with executives from Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Silva is eager to make a move to the Blaugrana, as he has been a fan of the club since 2004, when his idol Deco moved to the Camp Nou.

It’s said that when Barcelona officials were in Manchester earlier in the year to discuss a transfer for Ferran Torres, Silva admitted his love for the club and said that it was his dream to play for them.

Barcelona initially brushed off those desires, but soon after, received a text from the player himself, making it clear that he was interested in a move to the La Liga side.

Soon after, Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who has very close connections to Barcelona, spoke to their President Joan Laporta and Vice President Rafa Yuste, about a possibility of a move in the future.

Silva has been at Manchester City since 2017, joining from Monaco, and has been a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s title-winning team this season, being one of their top performers.

There was a belief that City were willing to let him go last season, but his improved form has made him a favourite in the side and they are keen to keep hold of him unless the player requests a move.
