Kylian Mbappe’s potential move to Real Madrid continues to dominate football transfer news, with the future of the PSG striker seeming to tend one way then the other.

Out of contract in around six weeks, Mbappe has still not announced his intention – whether that is to remain with the Ligue 1 champions or whether it is to complete a move to Spain.

With the climax of the long saga nearing, various reports from each country are often suggesting contrasting things.

For example, on Tuesday, news broke in AS that PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi had announced to the European Club Association (ECA) during a meeting in Spain that Mbappe had privately agreed to sign a new deal with the Parisians.

This, however, was quickly denied by those close to Al Khelaifi via French outlet RMC.

“The entourage of the Qatari leaders denies the fact that the Mbappe case was discussed during this meeting. All discussions were related to the agenda. There was nothing concerning the situation of the Parisian striker, who is out of contract in Paris at the end of the season,” it is stated.

Groundhog day for Mbappe

This echoes recent reports from Le Parisien that Mbappe had agreed to re-sign with PSG. These were rebuffed within minutes via the footballer’s mother on Twitter.

The upshot is that Mbappe’s future remains a closely guarded secret. Those close to the player continue to maintain that he has not yet made his decision over his future but that when he does the critical factor will be made because of a sporting choice.

Real Madrid remains the likeliest destination for Mbappe during the 2022/23 season – their remarkable Champions League run can only have helped their cause – but there remains a belief that PSG still have a legitimate shot at keeping a player their project is based around.
