Anthony Martial’s loan spell at Sevilla hasn’t gone to plan and Sunday's defeat against Real Madrid was another low point for the French forward.

The 26-year-old joined the Spanish side in January after making it clear he wanted to leave Manchester United, but he has managed just one goal for the club in that time in 11 appearances.

Against Madrid, meanwhile, he picked up a yellow card after being brought down by Los Blancos midfield Eduardo Camavinga and then venting about the decision not going his way.

Just two minutes later, Martial was substituted due to the injury he picked up in the collision with Camavinga, and coach Julen Lopetegui confirmed the issue later on.

Sevilla ended up losing 3-2 after building up a two-goal lead early on, with Karim Benzema scoring in the 92nd minute to secure the win for the league leaders.

Last month, Football Transfers exclusively revealed that Sevilla had never planned to keep Martial beyond this season and would send him back to Manchester United regardless of performance.

The overall cost of the transfer, including fee and wages will prove to be too high, and his level will not justify forking out that much money.

A source close to Sevilla said: “Sevilla won’t buy Martial even if they win the EuroMillions.

“They are happy with him but they won’t sign him permanently.

“Any further deal is not in their plans at all - just these six months to help them challenge Real Madrid for the title.”

Earlier this month, Martial was criticised by his own fans for his lack of desire and movement. He was jeered in a match against Barcelona.

Spanish paper Marca also said that Martial “didn’t fit the system” at Sevilla and the player himself was frustrated by his situation at the club.

This will be a worry for Manchester United, who will be hoping to find a permanent buyer for the forward but will be hampered by his average performances for Sevilla.
