There is excitement at Barcelona after agreeing the transfer of Pablo Torre, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder at Racing Santander who’ll move to the Catalan club at the end of this season. Torre is a highly rated talent and proved it again on Sunday by scoring in his side’s 1-1 draw away at Talavera.

That was Torre’s seventh goal of the season for Racing Santander, to go along with his seven assists. Although the club from the north of Spain are playing in the third tier of Spanish football, these are still impressive numbers for a teenager, especially as he isn’t an out-and-out forward. He is a player who can start attacks from deep and this Sunday’s goal demonstrates that, as it was Torre who started the move before getting into the penalty area to finish it off.

“He is a right-sided attacking midfielder with plenty of skill and lethal at setting up goals and he also breaks through on goal himself with frequency and is a natural choice for dead ball situations,” was how Barcelona described him in their official announcement.

When will Pablo Torre actually move to Barcelona?

Barcelona announced the signing of the player on Friday, but the Spain youth international won’t actually move to Catalonia until the summer. Then, he’ll initially link up with the B team but could be fast-tracked into the first team if he performs well.

His contract will run until 2026, so this is a long-term commitment from Barcelona for this player who’ll have turned 19 by the time he arrives at the club.

How much did Barcelona pay for Pablo Torre?

Barcelona have confirmed that the initial fee is €5m, although this could rise to as much as €20m depending on add-ons that could be met. They have set his initial release clause at €100m, keen to fend off interest from other clubs.
