Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Victor Munoz and are now looking to seal a €100 million move for Yan Diomande after informing RB Leipzig of their intentions to pursue a major deal.

Munoz has signed a six-year contract at Anfield in a whirlwind 24 hours that saw Liverpool hijack Newcastle’s move for the Osasuna winger by activating his €40m release clause.

The Magpies had been in talks with Osasuna over transfer and were believed to have had a similar offer accepted, with Munoz keen on the move, but Liverpool swept in to pay the release clause and beat Newcastle to the punch.

And now The Athletic report that a pursuit of Diomande has ‘intensified’ after Liverpool expressed a willingness to put forward a package approaching €100m for the 19-year-old.

Diomande has been a breakout star for Leipzig and is currently with Ivory Coast at the World Cup but Liverpool are said to be ‘firmly in the driving seat’ over Paris Saint-Germain to seal a move for one of Europe’s most in-demand wonderkids.

Despite the interest from PSG and Manchester United, Liverpool have pushed the hardest for Diomande and have been in dialogue with Leipzig over where they are prepared to go financially to seal a deal.

Liverpool set to intensify Diomande deal after Munoz signing

Munoz arrives after a breakout season for Osasuna where he scored six times after joining the La Liga strugglers from Real Madrid for €5m last summer.

Real Madrid will receive 50% of the €40m fee due to a sell-on clause, with Liverpool confirming a deal has been agreed after the 22-year-old passed a medical while at the World Cup with Spain.

A formal pursuit for Diomande is now expected to follow, with the former Leganes winger believed to be Liverpool’s ideal choice to replace the departed Mohamed Salah.

It remains to be seen whether Leipzig will find €100m a suitable fee to part ways with their young star, having initially insisted it would take closer to €130m, with the Bundesliga giants keen to renew Diomande’s deal and keep him for another season.

Diomande’s preference of a team is also unclear, with the teenager previously having revealed a desire to join PSG – the team his father supports – while he has also expressed his loyalty to Leipzig and insisted he is not pushing to leave the German side.
