Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham is unsettled by the drama surrounding his parents, according to German media.

The younger brother of England superstar Jude Bellingham joined Borussia Dortmund for €30.5 million this summer, following in the footsteps of the Real Madrid midfielder.

However, Jobe was clear from the beginning that he did not want to be just like his brother and requested that his first name, rather than Bellingham, be put on the back of his kit.

Despite his best efforts, he hasn't been able to escape the media scrutiny that being the brother of one of the best midfielders in the world naturally entails - and the situation hasn't been helped by his parents.

Earlier this season, his father Mark caused a veritable scandal in the German press when he stormed into the interior of St. Pauli's stadium to confront Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl after his son was the victim of an early substitution.

Bellingham feeling the pressure

According to BILD, the effects of that incident back in August are still being felt. Bellingham's parents attended Dortmund's Champions League clash with Athletic Club earlier this week, but they travelled incognito and barely interacted with each other in the stadium.

Sources close to the family claim that Mark's outburst and the media attention it generated have genuinely affected Jobe's performances, with the player having become unsettled by the drama. His parents are aware of this, which is why they are trying to avoid the spotlight.

Prior to starting against Bilbao, Bellingham was only a substitute in Dortmund's previous four games despite being one of the club's marquee summer signings. He looked nervous against Athletic Club and was substituted after 69 minutes.

When quizzed on the matter by the German outlet, head coach Niko Kovac moved to protect the youngster, although he did acknowledge that there is significant room for improvement.

"Sure, he made one or two misplaced passes," Kovac said. "But the boy is 20, and there's a lot of nervousness. I think he did well; he was agile, counter-pressed, and used his physicality to block one or two opponents.

"I was very pleased with his performance. We don't want to see everything so negatively; on the contrary, I see a lot of positives. But he's 20, and we can still improve a lot."
